Potty Training is so Much Fun! I Mean Gross!

5:13 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Okay so maybe its me because I am potty training my almost 4 year old right now but does anyone else want to take a shower after going through the motions with your kid in the bathroom? I mean, eewww! Maybe its because I have all boys but man I can't stress enough to them that there are yucky germs all over the toilet, your junk and the "special seat" that they use. Independence is the key with training for my Benji right now but he still needs some help balancing when he is pulling up his pull up or his pants. I don't mind helping, I mean I love the little guy and I am so proud of him, but... does he have to touch my shoulders, cheeks and nose with his potty germ infested hands? The worst part is that he completely made the effort to touch my nose and cheeks after I made a big speech that potty germs are gross and you need to wash your hands before you touch me or anything else. For a germaphobe like me I need some kind of solution to this problem. After thinking long and hard I decided there isn't any, except buying him a cooler potty seat.

The Baby Bjorn Toilet Trainer is cool cause it works for a boy or a girl and you don't have to stress with boys so much about keeping the "junk" pointed down into the toilet. I prefer not take a golden shower if at all possible, thank you very much! The reason is that it naturally goes up higher in the front instead of having a detachable pee guard. The other awesome selling feature is the rubber handle at the back of it so your kids can always grab it one place and not where any pee has fallen (hopefully). My best friend swears by this and I have tried it out at her house. I was very impressed. Today with my potty training experience I decided that I am going to buy this - tonight! The cheapest that I have found this seat online is through Baby Catalog for $24.99 as compared with Target for $32.99. If you find at least $99 worth of stuff that you want to buy from Baby Catalog the shipping is free. The Baby Bjorn Toilet Trainer comes in four different color options: white with blue, black, or red trim and pink with white trim. This seat fits great on all types of toilets and is ergonomically designed.

As for me I'm off to take another shower!

It's Official - I'm Addicted. Just ask Felicia from Blog Designs Free

1:29 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Blog Designs Free

So some of you may have noticed that I have done a redesign of my blog in the last couple of days. I am pretty much constantly looking for ways to improve my blog, things to blog about and just reading and commenting on as many blogs as possible. I started this as a small side habit and it has turned into an all out addiction. I can't help or stop myself from going into my blog or other blogs constantly throughout the day.

It was this obsession that has sparked my want, or should I say need, for a redesign. When I started my blog I literally knew absolutely nothing and changing the html scared the poop out of me. I taught myself all about what buttons and widgets were. It was a ton of reading mumbo jumbo but well worth it. I am still a novice but a slightly more informed one. I am always on the lookout for cool things to add to my blog and when I was reading one of my faves Jolly Mom, I came across a button that said Blog Designs Free. Well that perked me right up! I clicked on the link to discover a really awesome tutorial site that explained cool ways to improve my blog. This blog is owned by Felicia, who some may also know her from Go Graham Go, her review blog.

Well there was a "contact me" form on her site and so I asked her how I could make my blog wider because I never really like how small it was. I thought that I was lucky to have figured out on my own how to change it to a three column and to mess with it on my own was just asking for a complete site meltdown. To my surprise she emailed me soon after I contacted her. She also told me that my blog was messed up in more ways than one, which I kind of knew and had been told but didn't understand what people were saying. Well to make a long story short after a few emails back and forth this kind woman helped me realize what I did wrong and helped me fix it up to look the way that I wanted it to. I was so thankful!

Then the very next day she told me that she had a present for me and she emailed me a custom header that she had created just for little old me! It is perfect! I seriously could not have designed one better if I tried. It was like we shared a brain, I swear. Then while I am figuring out how to put it up she sent me another gift, a button and the code to grab it to match! I immediately knew that this lady was my new best bloggy friend. I could seriously not believe how kind she was and how much time she took to help me out, not to mention the gifts she made for me! She saved me so much time and frustration! I mean just to write this post I have been interupted about 6, make that 10, times and had to convert to typing with one hand so I don't neglect the kids too much! So you can see why learning tricky html tips is hard for me.

I still have a couple more things that I want to add to my blog before I will feel it is complete but I feel so lucky to have found a new friend that can help dumb down the instructions for me. So please go check out her two blogs, Blog Designs Free and Go Graham Go! and give Felicia some bloggy love because she deserves it.

Wordless Wednesday

1:12 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

My little Benji is my topic for Wordless Wednesday. Words can't even express my joy for what he has accomplished today. This morning I convinced him to go potty in the toilet before preschool - and he did! Then I told him if he needed to go at school to go ahead and go - and he did! I am so proud of him! He does perform this task for a fee of one Dum Dum, but well worth it if you ask me. Starting next week we are going full throttle into underwear, I hope it goes well.

Totally Too Much Money Tuesday

12:35 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

I have not had a lot time to blog today or read my normal slew of favorites all because I have been trying to be a super good home owner, for once. The story begins with us moving into our very first house, almost three years ago. We were so proud, so happy, so totally unprepared for all of the expenses that maintaining a house can bring.

So, this year with my tax return I decided to spend a little, just a little, on some overdue maintainence. Since last year our furnace has been humming really loudly. I have been afraid to have anyone come look at it for fear that I will have to give away my first born in order to pay for any type of repair. I found this great coupon to have my airducts cleaned for only $99. Now $99, that is a great deal! I figured I would finally change the furnace filter (which has not been replaced since we moved in- I know, gross) and pay to have the ducts cleaned out. Problem solved. Little did I know that this was only the beginning...

My morning started as usual getting the kids off to school and then taking care of my little one's needs. Then the hard part came, cleaning my house. I don't know what my obession is but I have to have my house clean if a total stranger that I am never going to see again is coming over. I won't clean if my husband or his parents come over, the people that see my house on a regular basis, but total strangers it must be clean for. All so I can keep up the image that I am good housewife to people that probably won't notice or could care less. Anyways, once the house was clean for air duct cleaning strangers I felt at ease, anxiously awaiting for them to arrive in the scheduled "window" of time.

At last they arrive, a really nice man named Oscar(also hubby and first born's name)and his mexican helper guy that does not speak a word of english. Enamored by his pleasant demeanor I start taking him around the whole house showing him where all the ducts are. He then goes to the garage where the dreaded furnace is. Now I should also mention that during this time my 3.5 year old, Benji, is completely trying to become this man's instant new best friend. He even grabs a lifesize big inflatable hammer (confiscated to the garage for a reason) that we got at a fair and proceeds to hit Oscar in the head with it while he is trying his best to explain what is wrong with my furnace.

Well, his original quote to completely clean, sanitize, new lifetime filterize, clean intake duct and provide a special UV light so that I will never have to clean the ducts again is a whopping $1850 plus tax. Now, he must have seen the look on my face, mouth agape, eyes wide open, because he really tried to explain, once again, why this is so beneficial for the health of my family. I of course told him that I was only prepared to pay the initial $99 that I had a coupon for. He tells me that my furnace is in such bad, bad shape and it really needs to be thouroughly cleaned. Apparently it was only operating at 60% efficiency instead of 100%. Just to bring it back to 100% it will cost $850. I call my husband and he pretty much freaks out like I did. I tell guy sorry but I can only do a couple of things and that my max was like $250. Then he drops it down to $750. Still no from me. Then he says "hey you know what, I really like you guys and I would be willing to take $750 plus tax in a few payments with no interest." This time I call hubby and we agree. We are so afraid of our furnace blowing up and then really being in a bind that we decided that this was the best way to go and we will just make sure that we can keep it maintained. So, then guy comes back in after he finished and tells me look, I talked to the office and they said that we can throw in the UV treatment, which is a lifetime package for the rest of my everloving life no matter what house I live in, for only $750 more. I told him again, I am all ready spending more than triple of what I had intended to so this, even though it was a $250 savings, was out of the question. He then runs to his van and comes back with a UV light package and tells me that this one he has is all ready opened and if I dont tell anyone he will give me UV package for only $375 plus tax which he will hold a check for until the end of April. Now his original estimate was $1000, then $750 now its gone down to $375, less than half of the regular price - still with full lifetime warranty and I will never have to clean my ducts again, ever.

Here my story ends with my being a great homeowner that has now just serviced my furnace for the grand total of $1200. I will never have to worry about it again, I hope. So, my $99 coupon turned into $1200 pretty quickly so that is why I have aptly named this post Totally Too Much Money Tuesday.

Not me Monday

9:31 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Well, this is my first Not Me Monday post - here goes nothing!

I finally got a great new camera and I did not take sooo many cute pics of my baby. I also learned not how to load them on my computer.

I get a much deserved day off with my hubby and the kids and we did not spend the whole day running errands! I did not go out and spend $300 on much needed stuff for the house- and me!

My much awaited Momagenda Folio finally came last week and I did not spend so much time blogging and doing other stuff instead of filling it all out and finally getting organized.

I did not want to jump for joy and give my hubby a great big smooch when I saw that while I was gone all day on Sunday he cleaned and organized our garage! This is so not important to me for getting some space to completely organize my business.

If you want to join in on the Not Me Monday fun you can read the rules here and then begin

Princess Fancy Pants Boutique Giveaway!

11:45 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

As a mom that is trying to get my own business up and running I love to find other moms that are doing the same! I also pride myself on being able to find unique and stylish finds. So, I am pleased to let everyone know about Princess Fancy Pants Boutique. This is a mom-owned boutique that has been around for a few years now. This mom got started making adorable hair accessories at an affordable price because she had two little girls and got sick of paying $10 for only one clip! In 2006 she had gone through a flood and she had to sell all of her stock and inventory. In 2007 she decided to reopen because she had so many previous customers contacting her and asking her for custom work. One thing that is really great is that her family and her kids help her with every aspect of her business. This mom says, "My girls and my son (lol) are always creating new clippies, or giving me ideas! I love the work I do, and I would not send anything out that I wouldn't put on my own princess!"

Now her store has blossomed into much more than just hair clips. She makes keychains, headbands, badge reels, beanies and my personal favorite, custom tutu sets. All of this in addition to the snappies, clippies and corkers. There is also a category for One of a Kind items if you are the type that loves to have what noone else does. I love her snappies! I honestly wish I was that talented! They are so reasonably priced too! For $5 you get 5 snappies, for an additional charge you can also add a bow, applique or baby corker. My favorite is the Snap Clip with Monogrammed Button, for only $2.50 that I have pictured. I also really liked her key chains with my favorite being the Multi Dot, for $6 from the Dots Collection.

Here is your chance to win a $25 Gift Certificate from Princess Fancy Pants Boutique! For $25 you can get so much great stuff and you get to pick your favorites! This gift certificate does not include free shipping of the items that you choose, however, there is only a $3.00 flat rate charge for US and Canadian residents and a flat rate charge of $10.95 for international orders.
This Giveaway runs from now until Feb 28, 2009. Here's how to enter to win:
You must visit Princess Fancy Pants Boutique and comment here what your favorite item in the store is. You must be specific and you must choose something other than the Monogrammed Snap Clip or the Multi Dot Key Chain.
Get extra entries by:
  • Following Pretty Pink Momma by hitting the "follow me" button on the blogger widget

  • Share this giveaway on another site and post the link to the site

I got a Life Is Grand Award!

6:46 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Jennifer, from It's a Beauty Filled Life was nice enough to give this award to me. Please check out her blog, you will enjoy it. I am so happy cause I never get anything like this. So now I need to blog about five reasons that my life is grand and then pass it on to five more people. So here goes nothing...

1. My three silly and smiling boys always keep me on my toes. Oscar, Benji and Emilio keep me smiling more and more every day, even when they are driving me nuts to the point where I want to jump off a cliff, I cant help but laugh at their completely little kid outlook on life.

2. My husband, he also drives me to the point of insanity (only cause he's old enough to know better) but I still find him totally hilarious and charming. Every day I can't wait until he comes home. He is my soulmate and my rock. When the world is falling apart he helps pick up the pieces. I am lucky.

3. My business is finally starting to get all set up! I just got my licenses and everything I need to be legit. Soon my website will be up and running and I will be good to go. I seriously can't wait to get it all together. I can finally truly say that I own my own business. Yay!

4. My tax return and my hubby's bonus came! I can now finally pay off all those pesky leftover hospital bills from having sweet Emilio. Not to mention all my trips to the ER and the pediatrician with him!

5. And lastly, Life is Grand because I have a great mother-in-law. I know, sounds wierd, but she sometimes will make dinner at her house and drive 45 minutes one way just to drop it off to me, then turn around and drive 45 minutes to get home, all so I don't have to cook dinner. Not to mention my hubby loves his mom's authentic El Salvadoran cooking. Me being little miss white lady can't make that stuff if I tried. I almost have pico di gallo, almost...

So, now since I have shard why Life is Grand I will now pass it on to five others, they are:

Rebecca at The Copper Brick Road - Our Path to Penny Pinching

Lady Christie at A Sassy Momma's Chatter

Georgette at Can't Hardly Wait

Tuesday Toot Meme Why Blog?

2:08 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Why Blog? That is a great question with a really complex answer for me. Why I like to blog now is different than why I originally started blogging. At first, blogging seemed really confusing, I had know idea what it was or why people did it. As I explored more of the blogosphere I realized that it would be a great way to connect to people to otherwise whom I would never ordinarily meet. Also, sometimes it can get kind of cumbersome without much adult interaction during the day. I found that I really enjoyed reading the blogs that I came across, getting a peek into someone else's real life drama. I hoped that I could be that interesting!

Also, blogging seemed like a really great way to tell people about my business that I was planning on starting. I wanted to be able to reach a lot of people and tell everyone about the business that I was going to start. I started blogging in November 2008. I knew that I was not going to be able to fund a lot for my business until Feb or March of 2009 so blogging gave me a way to explore other advertising opportunities and techniques. I have tried to learn as much as I can about blogging and how to make my blog look decent. I admit I still have a ton to learn but I think that I have definitely learned alot. I also plan to have a blog on my business website so this has been great for me to figure things out.

Once I started blogging I chose to share things with readers that I thought were really cool items that would buy or have bought in the past. I also wanted to share websites and activities to mix it up a bit. I had know idea that blogging would be so addicting! I love doing it and I love sharing. I have always had an issue with sharing too much of my personal life in the blog but after reading so many great blogs and noticing that my favorites are the ones that include their personal life I have changed my outlook and now have decided to add more of me into my blog posts- not to mention post a lot more often! I can talk about me all day sometimes so having myself as another post topic is easy!

So, all in all, my blog's original intent was to fill a void and learn something new until I could get my business up and running. Now that I have done that I can't imagine not blogging. I am so happy that I have gotten a chance to meet so many cool bloggers and share life stories with them. I look forward now to expanding my blog and my business.

Attention Ladies! Get a $500 Grant towards starting your own business

2:26 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

To all of those women out there that are dreaming of starting up their own business this is for you! Many of you may not know but I am one of these women. As a matter of fact I just turned in all of my applications and fees for my own business which I will be starting up officially in April 2009. Through my internet travels I have come across Womensnet.net, an entrepeneurial community for women, and discovered the Amber Grant. This grant began in 1998 in conjunction with Womensnet.net to honor the memory of a young woman that died in 1981 at the age of 19. The purpose of the Amber Grant is to help other women achieve the dreams that Amber could not in her short time here. The Amber Grant is designed specifically focus on women trying to start small businesses, homebased or online. All though the grants are small, usually only $500 - $1000, they often are able to cover some of the initial and essential expenses that make the difference in getting started or being stalled. This grant is privately funded and the hope is that the receiver of the grant will pass on the kindness by helping others along the way.

How to Apply
You must complete and submit the application form by February 28, 2009. The winner of the Grant will be announced on March 31, 2009.

Please use this link to complete your application form. This Grant period they are graciously giving $500 not only to winner of the grant but also an additional $500 to the person that referred the winner.

I don't know about you but I know that I could definitely benefit from $500 towards my business. I obviously applied for this amazing opportunity and I hope that you will do the same! Good luck to you on all of your business ventures.

New Year, Direction

12:41 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

So it has been a couple weeks since I have done a blog posting. My 7 month old son has been sick for a couple of weeks and my focus has been completely on his well being as well as the rest of my family. Now that everything seems to be getting back to normal I will be back on track posting. I am planning to take my blog in a little bit different direction. I am going to start putting up personal pictures of me and my kids using my favorite chic and trendy must haves. In addition to this, I will also be posting something on a daily basis which will not only include product reviews but personal reflections. When I started blogging I really didn't want to let a whole lot of my personal life into the blogosphere thinking that it would cloud my readers view of things. After careful consideration I am now under the impression that it will in fact encourage my blog to blossom into multiple directions that I can't wait to explore. So please, bear with me and enjoy the changes!
