Learn the Kleenex Drying Song! Celebrate the Release of Kleenex Hand Towels and Enter to Win a $50 Gift Certificate for ServiceMaster!

As a mom to three young ones I can't tell you how many times a day I wash my hands. It seems that in our house I can't go longer than twenty minutes before I am wiping snot from someone's nose or changing diapers in addition to wiping up messes, preparing food or even just going to the bathroom for myself! Needless to say, hand washing is probably the thing I spend majority of my day doing. Seeing that I am so paranoid about germs, I can't believe that I never really thought about how clean your hands are after you wash them.

Since becoming a Kleenex Song Embassador I have learned that your hands are only as clean as the towel that you dry them with. Which is so true when you think about it. I know that I never use a guest towel when I am visiting someone else's home for just that reason - I simply just don't know how clean it is. I can't believe that I never related this line of thinking to my own towels at home. Here are some of the hand drying facts that I have learned via the Kleenex Hand Towel site.

  • Even if a hand towel is not visibly dirty it doesn't mean that it is in fact clean
  • Regular washing of hand towels does not ensure clean hands
  • One time use towels have been shown to be more hygienic
  • Hand drying with disposable towels can help prevent the spread of germs

Kleenex® Hand Towel Survey Statistics

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends drying hands with a single-use towel to help prevent the spread of germs.

To better understand America’s current hand drying habits, Kleenex® Hand Towels conducted a survey of more than 1,000 Americans to uncover the nation’s familiarity with the CDC’s hand drying recommendations.

Key Survey Findings

  • The majority of Americans (89%) use a cloth hand towel to dry hands in their home bathroom for an average of 14.7 seconds.
  • Other hand drying methods used in home bathrooms include: Using a paper towel or paper napkin (38%) o Simply shaking hands in the air to dry off (18%) o Wiping hands on a T-shirt or other article of clothing (9%)
  • Americans ages 18-24 are the most likely to shake their hands in the air (29%) or use an article of clothing to dry their hands (17%).

Fact Versus Fiction

  • PERCEPTION: Three quarters of Americans (73%) believe hand drying is less important than hand washing when it comes to helping stop the spread of germs.
  • CDC FACT: Freshly cleaned, wet hands transfer pathogens more readily than dry hands or hands not washed at all. The residual moisture determines the level of bacterial and viral transfer following hand washing. Careful hand drying is a critical factor for bacterial transfer to skin, food and environmental surfaces.
  • PERCEPTION: Most Americans (84%) say they change their hand towels for sanitary reasons yet the majority (78%) use the same hand towel in their bathroom for a couple of days or longer.
  • CDC FACT: Repeated drying of hands with reusable cloth towels is not recommended and should be avoided. Only one-in-five Americans (22%) are familiar with recommendation of drying hands with a one-time use towel.

I personally think that Kleenex Hand Towels are the perfect solution to making sure that hands are truly clean after they are washed. Kleenex has cleverly packaged the hand towels in a box that not only looks great and will fit in seamlessly with any bathroom decor, but also can be placed on the counter or on a towel rack. Below are some examples:

The Kleenex Hand Towels are dye and fragrance free and are much softer than regular paper towels too. They are made with Dry-Touch™ fibers so that each hand towel is soft, thick and super absorbent. Just like facial tissue I love that is has the Pop-Up®, one hand delivery system too! When I am helping Emilio dry his hands he fights me soooo much so being able to keep one hand on him and use the other to grab the towel is really important to me.

Teach Your Kids the Drying Song!

Every mom knows how important it is to teach your children good hygiene skills, especially when it comes to the bathroom! Being the germ freak that I am I have made hand washing a HUGE priority for the boys. I can tell the difference between them and some of their friends that they play with. Some of their friends don't even wash their hands after going to the bathroom and I make a huge deal about it if they are at my house. That seriously grosses me out. For that reason alone I think that Kleenex had a great idea to come up with a short little Drying Song for moms to teach their children and help make hand washing fun. The lyrics are cute and its a catchy little tune.

The Drying Song Lyrics

Cute huh? I will be creating a little video with me and my kids in the next week or so that incorporates the Drying Song into the video. It's going to be fun to hear them sing and see how they like using the Kleenex Hand Towels.
