Aloha Friday - Giveaway Winners

Aloha Fridays are brought to you by Kailani from An Island Life. Over there in Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So Kailani thought that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting, too. So, for Aloha Friday, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Answer my question and put one of your own up on your blog. Link up and check out other blogs that participate at An Island Life.

If you host giveaways on your blog, do you (or would you) notify the winner if you are going to choose a new winner if they have not responded to you within the time that you allow to claim it?

I normally notify the winner by email and give them three days to reply - which is a generous amount compared to some. In that email I state that if they do not reply within the three days I will choose a new winner. I have only had to do it a handful of times but one winner got pretty upset with me that I chose a new winner. She thought that me notifying her that she missed out, which I did as a courtesy, was like me rubbing it in her face, which wasn't my intention at all. I just thought that she should know. So, my question is: If you host giveaways on your blog, do you notify the winner if you are going to choose a new winner if they have not responded to you within the time that you allow to claim it?

NOPE...

I sent notify and let hem know how many days they had. If I don't hear from them by that time frame and I choose another winner then they need to understand that we have dead lines that the sponsor wants the winner's information you can't hold them up for that reason. Apologize and move on.
HUGS to you that you caught Slack.

i would send an email reminding the initial winner to claim their prize... then another one.. and then maybe one more... and if they won't do it.. i simply draw another winner and that's it.. you had 3 chances .. you missed.. then let another one have another chance ..it just sounds fair:)
but i wouldn't necessary notify the initial winner that i chose another winner... i would just let it go.
Happy Friday!

* my Aloha Friday's up too:)

I send a reminder. I have only had one that didn't respond within two days.

No. I have so many giveaways going on. I post the winners on my blog AND email the winner. Then they have 3 FULL days to get back in touch with me. I think that is good enough. I don't have the time to track people down.
I think if you are very clear in the giveaway itself, and your follow up with the winner notification than no other e-mail is needed before picking another winner. Right at the end of each of my giveaways I state that the winner(s) will have 48 hours from the time I e-mail them with the prize notification or another winner will be notified. No doubt a winner may be annoyed, but if you state the rules from the get-go that is the way it is. All of my winners have always replied within 1-12 hours of my e-mail. Good luck!

I do host giveaways but only once has a winner not responded. I'm glad you asked this question though. It's definately something I need to consider in the future. Thank you!!
I usually tell them in an e-mail they have a time frame to get back to me.
It only happened to me once, I did not tell her that a new winner was picked. To me if you enter, then you must want to win, so be diligent in watching to see if you win.

I would probably send a reminder on their last day, but after that then what's done is done.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Nope, I send them the email stating they won and that they have x amount of days to reply or I will choose a new winner. If I don't hear back then I choose a new one and move on. Saves me time on emails with still letting everyone know the rules.

I've never had this happen to me but I would definitely give them one last heads-up and a time limit before moving on.

No, I just go ahead and draw a new name. I've only had to do it once so far.
