Aloha Friday - Teachers and Christmas Presents

Aloha Fridays are brought to you by Kailani from An Island Life. Over there in Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So Kailani thought that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting, too. So, for Aloha Friday, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Answer my question and put one of your own up on your blog. Link up and check out other blogs that participate at An Island Life.

Do you get Christmas gifts for your children's teachers? Or any other helpers like bus drivers?

Oscar is in the first grade and I know that the thought occurred to me last year but it was after the fact. I don't know if its appropriate, polite or totally unnecessary. I'm not really sure if I should get something or just skip it. That's why I ask, do you get Christmas gifts for your children's teachers?

My son is only 9 months, but when he is older, I think we will
My kids aren't in any type of school yet, but I imagine that we will in the future.
As a SAHM who was a teacher, I always give my son's teacher something. These individuals spend 180 days with our children teaching them day in and day out. They also spend countless dollars out of their own pockets to purchase items for their classroom and students.

Last year I organized a gift for my son's teachers with the other parents. This year I am opting not to do this. As nice as it was, it was not worth the aggravation. This year I will buy his teacher a gift card to either a book store or another location that she enjoys.

I taught for 3 years. I taught at a low income school. I got very few gifts, but I think it is a nice thing to do, if you can afford it.

our little one is two...so we aren't there yet.

From what I hear from friends, the pressure is put on parents even in preschool....that everyone needs to pitch in so much money to buy birthday gifts and such for teachers. I think that is horrible. I'm sure teachers understand that many families just can't and shouldn't get them gifts.

My kids aren't in school as yet, but we will surely think of doing this whenever we can.

As a former teacher now at home, I think it is important to give something especially if your child would be the only one not giving something. They always were sad and very apologetic about not having a gift.

It doesn't have to be big. A five dollar gift card, something the class can use (crayons, flashcards, a puzzle), a bake good.
We homeschool so I am the teacher and bus driver ;P

I do give a small gift to our mail man though and we make treats for our neighbors.

Happy Holidays!

I did that through elementary school and then I stopped. It was a relief when it was over!

As the classroom coordinator for one of my kids I put together a gift from the entire class. We have a diverse class so am putting together a "Winter Basket". I asked families to bring something that they would want on a cold winter day...hot chocolate, a good book etc. With the economy, this can be as inexpensive or as expensive as one wants to get.

I will this year! My son just started preschool and my daughter goes to a daycare while he is in school so I can go to the gym. I will be getting gift cards for both of their teachers. My Mom has run a preschool for 23 years and all of her parents always do something nice for her- gift cards for a massage, or nails, or just extra "bonus" money. As someone said earlier- these people spend a huge portion of time with our kids teaching them and keeping them safe- they deserve to be recognized!!
My son's school has a "Penguin shop" We let him buy for her himself.

We gave presents to all of my teachers when I was younger and then only to the ones I liked when I was older LOL It's hard to find things they will like!
Hmm. . .my kiddies are now 29 & 30, but when they were younger ~ I usually gave yummy food gifts all wrapped up in festive tissue & ribbons ~ the teachers always seemed to appreciate this more! One of my best friends that still teaches says food gifts are her favorite gifts or gift certificates!
