True Story Tuesday - I used to be a Hootchie Mama according to my Mother-in-Law

It's true, I used to be a hootchie mama. You know, I wasn't like a super slut or anything but whats more important is the where, why and who in this story.

When I was 18 I had my very own apartment. I hated to cook so I frequented this mexican restaurant as my main source of food intake. This restaurant also just so happened to have some really good looking waiters too. There was one in particular that I was in love with, Lester. I finally got up the nerve to leave him my number one night. To my shock and amazement he called me! We went out on date that same week. Only Lester wasn't so hot after that. We kissed and it turned out that we were more like a friend connection than a love connection. But we did become great friends. So great that we hung out all the time. I continued to frequent my favorite mexican eatery to get my nourishment and check out the other hot waiter.

Yes, its true, I found a new man in the same restaurant - Ramon. I ate there just about every other day or so just to see him and Lester, and the bus boy our mutual friend Eddie. Ramon was different than the others- he was a male slut. He met so many women at that restaurant and had his way with them that it was ridiculous! I think the only reason that he was interested in me at all is because even though I wanted to I never gave in to his game. Well, maybe a few quick interludes in the halls of the restaurant but nothing that was too big of a deal...

Well time passed and my friendship with Lester and Eddie got stronger but my romance with Ramon had fizzled out. Turns out he only wanted one thing, take one guess what that was! I was too smart to give it to him so that's why it didn't work out. But in the meantime I had run into a guy I went to high school with that I thought was a great guy, Oscar. In high school Oscar had a girlfriend so I never really thought of him as any thing other than a friend. But now, whoa was he a frickin' hottie!

So our first time out he and his brother took out me and one of my girlfriends to dinner, guess where? At my favorite mexican restaurant. Now I know what your thinking- I picked the place - WRONG! They picked it, cause guess what? Their MOM worked there! So, that was a fun filled evening let me tell you! Ramon, Eddie and Lester all snickering at me and my date. I just know the jabs that they were taking at Oscar's mom, laughing at who I was with now. I had never been so happy and uncomfortable all at the same time. How was I to know that the one restaurant in all of Seattle that I decided to be a hootchie mama at would be the very same one that my future mother-in-law worked at? Just my luck!

Needless to say when Oscar and I started dating seriously it took his mom quite a while to warm up to me. And I bet you thought you were nervous getting to know your boyfriends mom! I don't blame me her, if I was in her shoes I wouldn't be to thrilled either. It wasn't until we were married that she really started to get to know me, and I her. I am proud to say that today we are great friends. She is my second mom - no question. In fact just the other day she told me that she is going to name me executor of her estate in her will. She feels that I am best suited for the role in the family. That just speaks volumes to me about her trust for me, especially considering the fact that she has four children.

Where is everyone today? Ramon went back to Mexico, Lester is engaged and lives in Chicago and Eddie actually ended up working for the same company that Oscar works for, so we hear from him occasionally too. My mother-in-law doesn't work at my favorite mexican restaurant anymore. I still love the food and I eat there from time to time- only now I go with my mother-in-law and I don't know any of the waiters!

That my friends, is a true story.

That was hilarious! I had to recap this story for my husband. I'll admit it -- you had a much harder uphill battle to cozy up to your mother-in-law. Congrats on making it!

What a great story! I can only imagine what was going through your future mother-in-law's mind when you were dating her son. I know if it were me I'd be doing all I could to get you out of the picture!

I love a happy ending! Thanks for sharing your great true story!
You couldn't make a story like that up! That is just too many crazy coincidences for me. I think my MIL also thought I was a hoochie mama when she first met me, although (she says as she innocently bats her eyelashes) I have NO idea why :)

I loved reading that...what a riot! What were the chances of your future MIL working at that same restaurant??? Well, I'm glad she took the time to get to know you so she could appreciate the "real" you.

Isn't it a small world!?!? And you so need to tell me the name of the restaurant - we're heading up there in a few weeks!

Too funny how that all worked out - and glad you won over the mother-in-law!

That is so funny!

My mil used to think I was a hoochy, too, but for no other reason than that I wanted to "take her son from her." LOL

Stopping in from SITS.
