True Story Tuesday - Benji Say What?!!

In previous posts I have mentioned that my four year old, almost five year old, Benji has lots of questions. He has a lot to say in general actually. Nearly everything he says cracks me up, for realz. Not just what he says but the complete and utter seriousness in which he says it. For this weeks True Story Tuesday I thought that I would share with you all a few of his most recent gems.

Benji: I want you to have two more babies. Emilio needs someone to play with.

Me: Really? Two more? What about just one more? Would it be a boy or a girl?

Benji: Okay, I guess one is good. A boy though, we need another boy.

Me: What! No way! I have three boys all ready! What about a girl? Wouldn't it be cool to have a sister?

Benji: (begrudgingly) All right Mommy, you can have girl. Its okay. When is it gonna come? Now?

Me: Uh, no! Not for awhile dude, not for awhile. But thanks for your permission.

Benji: Your welcome Mommy!

This particular incident took place at my mother-in-laws house. My brother-in-law lives with her and before he lost is job recently he was constantly throwing money at my kids when he was drunk - which was all the time. Obviously now that he is unemployed its a different story. This is where Benji's tact that he inherited from my side of the family shines through, unfortunately.


Benji: Tio - I need to tell you something. Something in your ear. Come here!

Tio: (gets close to Benji so he can lean in and whisper in his ear) What is it homie?

Benji: (in a loud whisper) Tio, do you have any money?

My Mother-in-Law: Benji, what do you need money for?

Benji: To put in my piggy bank!

One day I was trying to get Benji ready for school before the bus came to pick him up and we were arguing over which coat he should wear to school.

Me: Put this coat on Benji, it is a 4T, the one that you want to wear is a 3T.

Benji: I don't want to wear that one!!! (he is quickly trying to get on the 3T coat)

Me: (taking off the other one) Just wear this one cause its bigger. PUT IT ON!

Benji: (throws down the 3T coat on the floor and starts to put it on) I'm gonna wear this one, and there isn't SHIT you can do about it!

Me: (in astonishment) Did you just say there isn't SHIT I can do about it?!!

Benji: (so quietly) Mmmm, yes. (then he started to cry)

Me: Oh Benji! Don't cry. But you can't say that word! If you said that at school you would get in so much trouble (me too, I'm thinkin') - don't ever say it again, promise?

Benji: (sniffling) Okay, I promise. But I'm not gonna wear that other coat.

Isn't he just the cutest? I have such a hard time not laughing at most of the things that come out of his mouth. But I have to hold back or he takes it personally, like I'm making fun of him - which I guess I kind of am. But come on, wouldn't you?
