I would love if you want to help spread the word about Video Thursday and participate. Just grab the Video Thursday button on my sidebar and post one of your favorite videos, either personal or one circulating around the web. Don't forget to link up so I can check out your video!

First off I just want to say have a fun and safe New Year's Eve. I will be working all day today but I look forward to ringing in the new year tonight. I like to make a wish for the new year at midnight, do any of you have a tradition you honor every year?

Well on to the last Video Thursday of 2009. One of the managers I work with sent me this video at work. He thought it was hilarious. Which was kind of odd for him because he is usually the most politically correct guy I know. I had to watch it a few times to get what was funny about it because the video is so short that any time I got interrupted I missed the end. What do you think about this video?

Wordless Wednesday - Christmas Bliss

12:00 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

I thought that I would share some of our Christmas pics of the boys from Christmas Eve at my in-laws and Christmas Day at our house. The boys had so much fun opening gifts it was a complete frenzy of torn up wrapping paper. Emilio had no idea what the heck was going on but loved destroying anything that was in his path. It was also awesome to see Benji get so excited because he was only 3 last year and being 4 he really got into it! Here are some of my favorite pics.

Daddy helping Emilio open the goodies in his stocking.

I love this picture of the boys at our house on Christmas Day - pre present chaos. They look so sweet and innocent don't they?

Same thing here only this is the pre present chaos at my in-laws on Christmas Eve.

My brother-in-law thought it was hilarious sticking all the bows to Benji's back without him knowing. The boy ran around forever before he figured out that they were there! Here he was trying to stick some on Emilio but he didn't have any luck.

This is one of my favorites of Emilio, doesn't he look sweet?

Why I will forever love the Renaisance Madison Hotel in Seattle

12:22 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

On Christmas Eve this year we spent the night at the Renaissance Hotel in Seattle. I have to admit it was a little weird because I have never woken up anywhere on Christmas Day other than my own home. Even weirder, we left the kids at my in-laws house for the night so we woke up completely alone. I have to say, IT WAS AWESOME! I got a full eight hours of uninterrupted sleep - who could ask for a better Christmas present than that?

Another reason I love the Renaissance Hotel so much is that my father-in-law is the Chef there. We spent the night at this gorgeous hotel for only $28.50! They had an awesome family rate for Christmas, normally we spend about $60 for the night. Either way it is a spectacular deal and a cheap getaway from the kids for us. And because my father-in-law is the Chef we always get free room service too. I LOVE that!

Perhaps the biggest reason why I will forever love this hotel is that seven and a half years ago we were married in it. It was a big, beautiful, everything I could ask for wedding. Our ceremony took place on the 28th floor, which had a wall of huge windows that overlooked the Seattle skyline. We were married just as the sun set, it was amazing.

Our reception took place on the third floor ballroom. It was the best time I have ever had! We had a huge buffet and open bar. About 200 of our friends and family gathered together to celebrate our special day. As any bride would, I wanted the day to be perfect. I spent an entire year planning the event and making sure that every last detail was perfect. It was a beautiful thing to see my vision come to life.

Each guest table was perfectly decorated. I couldn't afford to spend a whole lot on the floral arrangements for each table so my florist and I came up with a cost effective solution that was not only simple but elegant. In the center of each table were several clear glass bud vases of varying heights each displaying a perfectly hot pink or bright yellow gerber daisy. Can you guess what my colors were? I remember spending many days searching thrift stores and garage sales to find similar looking glass bud vases to supply all of the tables with. I kept a select few of my favorites that I found then ironically I donated the rest back to some of the thrift stores that I purchased them from in the first place.

The wedding favors were also an item that I wanted to look fabulous. I chose to fill mini plastic champagne glasses with white mints, securing them in tulle and tying it off with pink and yellow ribbons that had our names and wedding date printed on them. Shown is a similar picture of what I had done that I took from HansenEllis.com, a site that specializes in unique wedding favors and personalized gifts. Which by the way, when I do throw a milestone anniversary party (at the hotel, of course), I will be checking them out because Hansen Ellis has some of the cutest favors and gifts that I have seen! Obviously the bridal shower favor and wedding favor options have changed for the better over the last seven years! There are so many options and some really cute, budget friendly favor ideas that I know I would have chosen had I seen them all those years ago. Well at least I know that I have tons of great options for any of my future anniversary parties!

Where was I? Oh yes, telling you all about my wedding. The guest tables were perfectly decorated with the flowers and favors. I even had the flower covered arch that we were married under during the ceremony transported down to the reception, placed behind the head table. It was awesome. I think I finally got rid of the arch pieces last summer when we were cleaning out the garage. I think I had some dream of using the arch in our yard somehow but seeing as a I have a black thumb I came to the realization that dream would never come to pass.

The memory of my wedding like most brides will be a day that I will never forget. I am so thankful that my parents were able to afford me the wedding of my dreams. The ceremony and reception were exactly what I wanted them to be. I am also very lucky that I happen to marry a man with hotel connections too. My parents were able to receive a great discount on the ceremony and reception locations as well as a discount on the food and beverage that was served. I also had a great time essentially having my father-in-law as my caterer. I knew first hand just how delicious the food would be. Plus, he was trying to impress me for a change!

So, those are the reasons that I will forever love the Renaissance Hotel. I am sure that over the coming years I will have many more memories to add. I can't wait to see what they will be!

Bottle Top Review and Giveaway

11:25 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Photobucket

I really want to share with you an awesome invention that I have been introduced to, Bottle Tops. I LOVE them! I first saw these advertised on TV commercial a few months back. As soon as I saw them I knew that I really wanted to try them out. Seriously, this is the perfect solution to that age old problem of what to do with an open can that you desperately wish that you close. I was so happy that I was given an opportunity to review this product and let you know my findings.

As many of you are, I too am pretty skeptical sometimes about all the products that are advertised on TV these days. They always look like they are going to work but some if not most follow through on their promise. Well, I can assure you, Bottle Top WORKS! Just in case you missed the commercial I am talking about - here it is:

The basic concept behind Bottle Top is that you can simply snap one on to an open can, and voila, you have the ease and convenience of a reclosable bottle. It is perfect for so many things! Great for picnics, kids, car travel and more. I love to drink just half of a soda sometimes but I hate that the other half gets wasted. Well not anymore! Now I use the Bottle Top and the other half will stay fizzy until the next day when I want to drink it. Such a money saver! I really love that it minimizes spills too. I can't tell you how many times that my husband or I have left an open can on the table and one of the boys have knocked it over because they weren't paying attention. With a Bottle Top on the can stays closed and no more spills! I also feel confident enough to trust my six year old with a can of orange pop now that I can put a lid on it - especially in the car!

The only improvement that I could think to make, but is not really a big deal, is that I would prefer the screw on cap to the push on caps. I don't know why, just personal preference I guess. I have seen other similar products that have a screw on cap but they were selling the tops for $4 each. Bottle Top is a much, much better investment for the same quality. I would also recommend hand washing the Bottle Top instead of the dishwasher. If you are going to use the dishwasher just make sure that you put it on the top rack. I would suggest trying the dishwasher method on just one Bottle Top first to see if your dishwasher will warp it or not. That way if for some reason it does you will only mess up one instead of all twelve.

The Bottle Tops are sold in packages of 12, in six different colors. The different colors is great because it distinguishes one can from another when you have a few people drinking the same brand. You can purchase them from www.buybottletop.com and also at major retailers including Walgreens, Wal-Mart, Bed Bath and Beyond, Target and CVS for a suggested retail price of only $10. Many of these retailers offer coupons too so you may be able to get it for less.

Bottom line, if you have been thinking about purchasing Bottle Top but not sure if it was worth the $10, don't worry. In my opinion it is money well spent.

One lucky Pretty Pink Momma reader is going to get a Bottle Top package of their very own!

Video Thursday - Drunk 4 year old steals neighbors Christmas gifts

I couldn't believe this story when I heard it. Even more frustrating is the mother in this news story. She honestly thinks that there was nothing that she could have done to prevent this. I do agree with her statement "that you do the best you can" but this is ridiculous. The news reporter shows that he was able to break apart the safety door knob covers on the interior doors - but that doesn't explain how a 4 year old was able to get OUTSIDE.

Did anyone else happen to notice that the reporter didn't use proper english? She says, "the boy sneaked out" shouldn't it have been "snuck out"?

I guess I had a nice tall glass of bitch before I wrote this post, lol! Forgive me!

Stay in Touch While On the Go! texthook Review and Giveaway

12:07 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

One thing is certain, I am one busy momma! I need all the help I can get to simplify my life. I love to learn about new gadgets that make my life easier. God knows that with three boys running around, EVERY little bit helps! I am such a multitasker, it seems like I am always juggling ten things at once. Just like many of you, I can't live without my cell phone. My blackberry holds all my important info and keeps me connected with my most important peeps. Which is why I was so excited to learn about the texthook!

The texthook is the ultimate smart phone holder for those of us with an active lifestyle. It allows even the busiest momma to stay in touch while on the go. The texthook tightly secures your smartphone while continuing to provide access to the touchscreen or keyboard. Why is the texthook so great do you ask? This means that you can now text, talk or email while strolling, excercising, shopping and more! It truly is what they say, "a dashboard for your mobile life.

Being a mom to three boys I am now on my third stroller. All of my strollers have had compartments and cupholders to store things but they always end up getting filled up with all the stuff that my kids needed as we were strolling. There was never any room for my cell phone. I can't tell you how many important texts and calls I missed because I didn't hear my cell phone in either my pocket or my purse. With the texthook that won't ever happen again. I will be able to keep all of my kids crap organized and using the stroller compartments and have a special, easy to use, place to keep track of my cell phone.

I also seem to have this problem when I am the grocery store too. I try not bring my stroller in if I can help it. The texthook will easily attach to any shopping cart handle which is awesome if you have your shopping list displayed on your phone. I think that I might actually try this next time when I am doing my late night shopping after the kids are in bed. I usually just have my list on a post-it and stick it to the cart. Sometimes the post-it falls off, which leaves me trying to remember what was on the list. I think that this is great if you are alone or have older kids that you are taking to the store with you, but if I know that if I were to put my 18 month old in the seat and attach the texthook there would be some problems.

Another thing that I like about the texthook is that I can also use it to attach to my treadmill when I am exercising. I love that I can do that because there really isn't a good spot for it anywhere else on my treadmill. My treadmill has cupholders but for some reason the bottom of them have holes big enough for my cell phone to slip through. One great feature about the texthook is that the cradle rotates 180 degrees so you are able to view you smartphone from any angle. Below is a picture of my blackberry in the texthook attached to my treadmill.

The texthook is really easy to set up too. It all ready comes assembled in the box when you receive it. You just need to the velcro around the handlebar and tighten it. Then place your phone into the cradle and then move the slider down over the phone. To release your phone you simply squeeze the tabs on the backside and slide up. Voila! You are now ready to text on the go!

The only downside of the texthook that I can think of is that it makes your phone more noticeable to others. Which could be a potential for theft if you have your back turned while trying to chase the kiddos around. This alone would not detour me from using my texthook. All though theft is a possibility, it really just depends on how probable it is where you are using your texthook. However, this would not be a problem if you were using it on your stationary treadmill or cycle.

I would definitely suggest this as a great gift idea for any tech savvy person on the go. Those that love to stay connected using their smartphones will surely appreciate the ease and convenience of the texthook. Perfect for any stroller, shopping cart, bicycle or piece of exercise equipment. It is also small enough to keep in your glovebox, purse or diaper bag without getting in the way.

You can get your own at texthook for only $25.99. Visit thetexthook.com to learn more about the texthook and how it can work for you. There you can also find a list of texthook compatible phones.

One lucky Pretty Pink Momma reader is going to get a texthook of their very own!

Wordless Wednesday - Potty Humor

I was cracking up when I came across this in an image search. Apparently this is a series of posters that hang in a mens restroom at a software company in the Netherlands. I imagine that this software company is a fun place to work!

SmartKnitKIDS Seamless Socks Review and Giveaway

7:00 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

One of my biggest hassles when getting Oscar ready for school in the morning is getting him dressed. You wouldn't think that this would be such a horrible task - but let me tell you - it is. Oscar has always experienced huge sensory issues and is so sensitive to all of his clothes. If they feel "funny" in any way he refuses to wear them and throws a tantrum. Unfortunately I have no idea what "funny" feels like and how to avoid it. In fact, I think it changes all the time. He will only wear specific baggy T-shirts and athletic pants that simply must have no drawstring - only an elastic band will be tolerated. Luckily I found the cheapest athletic pants at JC Penney's that he prefers to all of the really expensive Adidas, Nike and Puma that I tried to buy for him that met his no drawstring requirement.

You would think that it ends there but no. Oscar is just as picky about his socks, actually probably more picky than any other item of clothing. Living in the Pacific Northwest, socks are not an option. Once Summer is over it is just too wet and rainy to wear sandals. If Oscar's socks do not feel just right inside of his shoes he will break down in tears and threaten not to go to school, etc... which always makes for a pleasant way to start the day, right? The seams on the toes always seemed to bunch in one way or another after he would get his shoes on. You don't even want to know the headache that I go through just to get his socks on his feet in exactly the right way. If he feels that seam at all - I am in for it. I do feel for him on this subject though because he does have extra wide feet and needs a thin, comfortable sock with no seams. So far, I have only found one brand that would satisfy his sock needs. It claims to be seamless, but isn't really, and only comes in white ankle style. So let me tell me you, I was absolutely THRILLED to find out about SmartKnitKIDS™. I was even more excited to learn that they would love to let Oscar review a few pairs!

SmartKnitKIDS™ socks
were created by a mom that was tired of hearing the same words that I dreaded every morning, "these sock seams keep bugging me," and thankfully she decided something needed to be done about it. After searching for a "seamless sock" she soon realized that they truly did not exist. I can relate to this so much because I too searched store after store, and until now I had never found a truly seamless sock. What makes SmartKnitKIDS™ socks so unique is that they are started at the toe and worked up toward the ankle. This process ensures a 100% seamless sock, so there are no seams to bug ya! The form-fitting design also ensures a snug fit to avoid the annoying lumps and bumps from occurring.

The SmartKnitKIDS™ patented seamless socks are perfect for children like Oscar who suffer from hypersensitivity issues with the seams on socks. They are designed to provide comfort and relief to children that experience the lumps and bumps in the socks after putting on their shoes. The socks also have a comfortable non-binding Halo Top™ that helps keep the sock from slipping but doesn't irritate or pinch like some of the elastic bands at the tops of socks can do. The SmartKnitKIDS™ socks are created with high tech fibers that help wick moisture away which help to keep feet drier and in a more hygenic sock environment. A fantastic plus is that they are anti-microbial and help to inhibit fungal odor causing bacteria. Which believe me, Oscar definitely needs!

When I told Oscar that I had some new socks for him to try he was ridiculously super excited. You wouldn't think that a 6 year old would get so happy over new socks but he knows the struggles that we go through each day and couldn't wait to try the socks on. The fact that were NOT white and of different lengths was also something that was special for him. Let me tell you, from the moment that I got them on his feet it was heaven. He loved them, I loved that he loved them, simply perfect. Then came the shoes. We got his shoes on with absolutely no problems and he loved that he didn't even have to worry about a seam because there simply weren't any! These socks are such a lifesaver for Oscar, and a sanity saver for me. The only problem that we encountered with the socks was that when he wore his rain boots to school by the time he came home the socks had slipped down to his foot and bunched up. We did not have this problem with the socks when he wore his tennis shoes at all so I was surprised to see that they fell in the rain boot. However, rain boots are taller so they are rubbing up against the socks while he is walking around which is probably why they fell down. Oscar really didn't seem to mind and just fixed it when he got home. It had no effect on his choice to wear the socks again. I would probably go with the ankle socks next time he wears his rain boots though so that it won't be an issue for him again.

Santa's Hotline - Kids Get Your Lists Ready!

1:58 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Did you know that there is a Santa Hotline? Kids can call the Santa Hotline up until December 25th and leave a message for Santa. I thought that this was a pretty cool idea. I am planning on having the boys call Santa's Hotline on Christmas Eve, just to add to the magic of it all. Of course, I had to call it first so I know what to expect when I have the boys call.

I will admit the instant laughing in the message caught me a bit off guard. Kind of freaky actually. However, the message does get better and Santa encourages the kids to leave a message and casually mentions at the end that he knows who has been naughty and nice. I thought that part was pretty funny seeing that I use that line all the time during the month of December to get my kids to behave in an instant.

The Santa Hotline is brought to you by FreeConferenceCall.com and I think that its worth checking out. Even if its just to give yourself a laugh when you need a midday pick me up! I know that it definitely put a smile on my face.

Santa's Hotline number is 951-262-3062. If you do call it please leave a comment and let me know what you think - I'm dying to hear your opinion.

Merry Christmas!

Aloha Friday - Christmas Wishes

12:00 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Aloha Fridays are brought to you by Kailani from An Island Life. Over there in Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So Kailani thought that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting, too. So, for Aloha Friday, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Answer my question and put one of your own up on your blog. Link up and check out other blogs that participate at An Island Life.

What do you really want for Christmas that you absolutely know without a doubt you just wont get? Is is something expensive? Or maybe something you have no control over - like snow, relatives or an activity?

There are two things that I really want for Christmas that I know I will not be getting. The first is WAY MORE SLEEP, the second is a maid service. I need way more time in the day to accomplish meeting the needs of my children, meeting the demands of my blog and also finding time to manage my wifely duties of cooking and cleaning. Lately my hubby has been helping with the dishes and washing the clothes but thats as close to a maid service as it gets. I have often talked about hiring someone but the hubs is against paying for anything that we can do ourselves. Which under normal circumstances I would agree with but I seriously don't remember the last time that I felt my whole entire house was clean - at the same time. Lately its been only half the house at a time. Anyways, a clean house is at the very top of my wish list - any way you slice it - I don't see that happening in time for Christmas.

Video Thursday - Imagination Movers Live

12:16 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

I would love if you want to help spread the word about Video Thursday and participate. Just grab the Video Thursday button on my sidebar and post one of your favorite videos, either personal or one circulating around the web. Don't forget to link up so I can check out your video!

We went to go see the Imagination Movers from the Disney channel live in concert on Saturday. It was so much fun for kids and for us. I love most of the Imagination Movers songs myself so it was a great experience. Except for the fact that Emilio did not like being contained in theatre seats. We met my brother, his wife and five year old daughter there. My niece was going bananas dancing everywhere - it was a total riot! My boys were so reserved and I really had to sing and dance with them to get them involved in the whole experience. I was so surprised by that cause they are big hams at home.

I would definitely recommend seeing The Movers if they come to your area. They are so fun and lively, kids and parents alike love them. Just like the TV show they have an "Idea Emergency" plot line going on during the live show. I didn't know what expect before going so I was really happy to see that they stuck with an "Idea Emergency" formula. I love that their music is for preschool aged kids but has a melody and rhythm that adults can enjoy. The songs are pretty catchy though and get stuck in my head all the time. At least they are fun tunes instead of the same old Row, Row, Row Your Boat or something.

Here is a video recording of the Imagination Movers singing "What's Your Favorite Snack?" at the concert. I also quickly panned over to my boys to see if they were dancing but they were only clapping along. Oscar had a nice scowl on his face too - way to show your enjoyment! After watching this again I now realize why Benji keeps asking me for "pop, pop, pop, popcorn" everyday. Mover Scott, Benji's favorite Mover - mine too, loves "pop, pop, pop, popcorn" as a favorite snack.

Wordless Wednesday - Benji's Christmas Tree Decorating

1:47 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

One night while I was getting my Twitter party on, Benji wanted to decorate the tree. I told him that I would help him as soon as I was finished with what I was doing. Well, apparently Benji couldn't wait. When I was finished with the party I went see what he had been up to and I found a beautifully decorated tree, the bottom third of the tree that is! He did a fantastic job too! Can you believe he unloaded two whole containers of ornaments on just the bottom? I totally would have kept it like that too because I have enough ornaments to fill the rest of tree up but I had to move them. If I didn't they would surely have been destroyed by Emilio. This is his first Christmas that he is able to walk around and cause Christmas tree mischief. Benji was so disappointed, so I took pictures so that we could forever remember the great job that he did, even if we had to rearrange them.

My Sweet Bowtique $25 Gift Certificate Giveaway

9:45 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

For all of you that have little girls and need some more stocking stuffers - this one's for you! About six months ago I told you all about one of the best places to buy hairclips, bows and cute little girl accessories online, My Sweet Bowtique. Recently My Sweet Bowtique has renovated their site and added some great new products as well. I love the new look and I couldn't be more excited to share their new and improved, revamped site with you. You will love how easy the site is to navigate and add items in to your cart.

The biggest challenge that I came across with My Sweet Bowtique was deciding what to pick out! You have not seen mind boggling selection until you have visited this site. Basically you can customize your hair clip, bow or accessory to go with any outfit, personality or preference. The combinations are endless! You can order your clip in any way that you want. Either a 1 1/4" snap clip or a 1 3/4" alligator clip. Many of the designs are shown on the snap clips, so if you would like that design on an alligator clip that is shown in a snap clip style you would just need to specify when ordering.

Just to give you an example of how simple yet thorough it is to choose the ideal clip I have decided to show you a screenshot play by play of the process. I started with clicking on the Clippies Category and then going from there.

After clicking on Clippies, this is the menu of choices that is available to choose from. As you can see there are 11 categories of decorated clippies to choose from.

I selected the bow subcategory, which then brought up three more options: Satin Padded Bows, Satin Bow with Pearl and Layered Bows.

From there I selected Satin Padded Bows. This is the top of the page that comes up. As you can see there are 14 different color options for the padded bow that you would like on your clip. Then I scrolled down the page to view all of the ribbon choices available to cover the clip beneath the bow.

As you can see, the design options are endless! I don't even want to think about the math that is involved to figure out just how many combinations that can be achieved with just this ONE subcategory! At the end of the page you have an option to choose the bow color and the ribbon choice - all for only $2.00 per clippie. This style in particular is only available for the 30mm snap clip but there are several other categories where you can choose an alligator clip if you prefer. Do you all see what I am talking about? The most clip options I have ever seen offered. Period.

In addition to hair clips, bows and head bands, My Sweet Bowtique also offers a variety of Crochet Hats, Tutu's and Tutu Dresses as well. The color choices and options that are laid out for each of these categories are also quite extensive.

The Crochet Hats are offered in two different sizes, Infant or Toddler. There are 12 different color options and 5 different style options. Just like the clips you can customize your hat to be exactly what you would like, to compliment any outfit. The crochet hats run in price from $9.99 to $14.99 depending upon the style you select.

The Tutu's and Tutu Dresses are also a really popular item that I would love to tell you about. Just like all the other categories, My Sweet Bowtique does not disappoint when it comes to options for your Tutu needs. To be honest, I have never even seen a Tutu Dress before, but it is a really cute idea. Whether it is a Tutu or a Tutu Dress that you are looking for, you get three choices of tulle color for it, and 20 different colors of tulle to choose from. The Tutu's are available from size 0-6mos all the way up to 2T-3T. The Tutu's also have four different style options to choose from: Original Tutu, Pixie Cut Tutu, Knotted Tutu and Tied Tutu. All of them are adorable. A wonderful addition to the Tutu pages is a slide show that shows girls of different ages showcasing all of the different Tutu styles. It really helps you figure out which Tutu style that you like the best because you are able to see them in action.

As you can see, My Sweet Bowtique is one of the most comprehensive hair accessory sites for little girls that I have yet to find. The only thing that I feel this site is lacking are clippie and bow holders. I would love to see some of those on the site in the future. Any way you look at it though, My Sweet Bowtique is a definite must shop site in my opinion if you are looking to create the perfect custom hair accessory.

Please go visit My Sweet Bowtique to discover your perfect hair accessory combinations. Follow @MySweetBowtique on Twitter to be the first to know about discounts and specials that you wouldn't want to miss out on. One last thing, don't forget, they make great stocking stuffers too!

My Sweet Bowtique is offering ONE lucky Pretty Pink Momma reader a $25 gift certificate that includes free shipping of the items selected!

Men of a Certain Age - New TNT Drama Review

4:04 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE me some TV time. I need that escape each night after the kids have gone to bed. I love being swept away with great stories and plot lines. I can't wait to find out just what will happen next. TV shows  allow me to forget about my problems and my stresses - even if its just for a little while. Lord knows I need the laughs after my day of chasing around three crazy boys is over! Which is why I was happy to review a new show on TNT, Men of a Certain Age.

Men of a Certain Age, starring Ray Romano, Scott Bakula and Andre Braugher, is a drama about three men that are college buddies and their path through midlife together. Below is the show description taken from the TNT website.

ABOUT MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE

John Lennon once wrote, “Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.” For three men entering the second act of their lives, those words are starting to hit home in TNT’s newest original series, MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE. This wry drama stars Emmy® winner Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond), Golden Globe® winner Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap, Star Trek: Enterprise) and Emmy winner Andre Braugher (Homicide: Life on the Street, TNT’s Salem’s Lot). It marks a return to series television for Romano, who created MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE with Everybody Loves Raymond Emmy winner Mike Royce. The two serve as executive producers, along with Rory Rosegarten and Cary Hoffman.

MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE explores the unique bonds of male friendship among three men experiencing the changes and challenges of mid-life. They have been best friends since college but now, in their 40s, are navigating through the second act of their lives. Joe (Romano) is a friendly, slightly neurotic, recently separated father of two who had dreams of being a professional golfer. Now he owns and runs a party store. Terry (Bakula) is a laid-back, handsome actor who seems to breeze through life (and women). Lately, he’s spending more time working as a temp than as an actor. And Owen (Braugher) is an overstressed husband and father of three who endures constant criticism from his father, for whom he works as a car salesman.

These friends face very different challenges. Joe, who currently lives in a hotel, tries to connect with his kids and is dipping his toe in the dating pool, while also struggling with the gambling problem that may have ended his marriage. The unmarried Terry scoffs at domestic issues but sometimes wonders if his own single life is all it’s cracked up to be. Owen does everything he can to climb the sales board at his father’s car dealership and keep his cool over the seemingly endless renovation project in the home he can barely afford. Through it all, these men are there for each other when it counts.

The pilot episode of Men of a Certain Age aired last Monday, December 7th.  If you missed it you can go to the TNT site and watch the full episode.  New episodes air Monday nights at 10/9 central.  Here is the TNT promo just to give you an idea of what its about.

My Take

I was actually pleasantly surprised that to find out that I really like this show.  I didn't know if I would be able to relate to men going through the trials of midlife or care for that matter.  I really like Ray Romano's humor.  I loved him in Everybody Loves Raymond so I was really happy to see his return to TV, and I like that he still has the same sense of humor even with more serious subject matter.  There were definitely a couple of points in during the show with his character that I didn't fully understand.  But I like Ray Romano so I will be sticking around to find out why his character, Joe, does some of the things that he does.  I know a few men like him, forties, in the middle of divorce yet still in love with their wife, reliving glory days and worrying about their kids so I can somewhat relate to what he is going though based on my friends experiences.

Scott Bakula's character, Terry, I don't really get at all.  I know some men like him but for me I just wasn't convinced by Scott Bakula's performance.  I thought that most of the scenes involving him weren't anything special.  I am not really into what is going on with his character and I don't really care.  I definitely hope to be more engaged by him in future episodes because overall I do think that Scott Bakula is a great actor.

I really connected with Andre Braugher's character, Owen, the most.  I see a little of my own husband in this character.  Just a little.  I also sympathized with Owen's wife because she seems to be driving force that pushes Owen to want success for himself and his family. I relate to that as I have had to do a lot of pushing in order to get my own husband on the ball at work.  I think the main reason that I found Owen's character so interesting is that he is a car salesman.  Mainly because I have worked in the car dealership biz for the last 14 years.  I was cracking up at the antics that they showcased on the show that happen everyday between car salesmen in dealerships.  I also think that maybe because I do understand the inner workings of the car biz I was able to understand just how crushing Owen's situation was for him.  There aren't that many shows about the car biz on TV and for this reason alone I know that I will be watching Men of a Certain Age on a regular basis.  Plus, I think that many men at car dealerships fall into this category of men, which in itself is kind of humorous to me.

I definitely  recommend, at the very least, checking out Men of a Certain Age.  I think that the plot lines could use a little help but just as when any new show starts you have to watch a few episodes in order to get a feel for the characters and what is going on.  It has great actors, but I am definitely looking forward to see how they can develop these characters and make me want to know more about them.

The following project ideas can be made for men, women and children alike. Just change the fabrics and styles depending upon who you are making the items for.

The Personalized Name Pillow is a great way to make a child feel special. There are step-by-step instructions on how to pair fabrics of your choice, appliqué, and complete this boutique pillow. This eBook comes with a pattern, alphabet cut-outs and easy instruction. Celebrate someone special with a pillow they will cherish! This pillow is made by using a general home sewing machine. You can also view the first few steps of this pillow on video for free on YCMT-TV!

This pattern shows you how to create multiple forms of the classic peasant: an elongated top, empire-style long or short dress, and more. Add ruffles, tiers and more to showcase the flattering lines of your creation even more. Even better, a doll pattern is also included so your princess and her doll can look amazing together! There are so many variations of this peasant pattern you could make a ton of boutique style outfits for girls from size 6mos to 8 years.

I love these Easy Fit Pants! The pattern is for children 6mos to 10 years, and dolls too! I really need to learn this pattern. My boys love pajama style pants so this pattern is definitely on the must have list. All though I would make pajama bottoms you could also use a dressier fabric and create cute boutique style pants too. The reviews all claim that its super easy and that you could have your pants finished in no time flat. The term "Easy-Fit" refers to both the wearing AND construction of these pants. With the detailed sizing instructions, you can make pants to specific measurements or in standard, ready-to-wear sizes.

The Easy Fit Pants are so awesome and popular for kids that there is also an Easy Fit pattern that caters to teens and adults. The pattern is for sizes from XXS all the way up to 3X. How cool would it be to make matching pants for the whole family? I think that the Easy Fit Pants would make a great gift for moms and dads alike. I know that both me and my hubby love to lounge around the house in comfy pants. With this pattern you can give the gift of comfort!

If none of these ideas inspired you head on over to You Can Make This and I am certain that you will find at least one idea out of the dozens and dozens of ideas listed there that will.

For those of you that loved the ideas shown above (and really who wouldn't?) You Can Make This is offering the patterns to all four projects listed above to TWO lucky Pretty Pink Momma readers! Just in time for the holidays too!
