Nutrisystem - A Typical Breakfast

12:00 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

I thought that this week I would share what a typical breakfast for me might look like. Today it was a Nutrisystem Blueberry Muffin, one and half cups of strawberries and a small glass of milk. Excuse the bite! I was really hungry and dug right in before I remembered that I wanted to take a picture of my food before I mowed it down. I have found that this combination of entree, fruit serving and dairy serving works really well for in the mornings. Its fast, easy and the combination is filling. I am not hungry until lunch - ever.

For me, the thing I was most curious about when starting Nutrisystem was the food. Would I like it? Or would it be something that I couldn't dare eat? I'm a pretty picky eater too so it doesn't take much to scare me. I will be the first to admit that I LOVE the Nutrisystem breakfast and lunches. They are quick, easy and delicious. I am the first to admit that I do not love all of the food choices. To be perfectly honest I don't think anyone could love all the food options. I learned a lot about my likes and dislikes my first month on the program as well as a little about myself.

I just received my second order of food today. This order I am really, really excited about! Why? Because this time I got to choose everything in my order. I didn't get anything that I didn't like or wouldn't eat, the entire box is suited to my tastes. Which means I got to order a whole lot of chocolate peanut bars - I love those things! I could eat that as my entree morning noon and night if it was part of the plan! I did add some variety to my order but not much. For me I like eating the same main entree over and over again with little variation. For me, its what I thrive on for success. Here's why:

The Nutrisystem entrees are always coupled with fruit and a dairy, fruit and a protein, a dairy or protein plus veggies or a fruit plus veggies. Even if I ate the same nutrisystem entrees all the time I still get tons of variety with the fruits and vegetables plus dairy or proteins that I choose to combo my entrees with.

One way I have learned to expand my fruit and veggie options is by frequenting my local farmers market once a week, or more if time permits. This is one of the hugest tips for success that I could give someone. I always thought that fruits and vegetables were really expensive, which is why I only bought them sparingly. In most cases, they are really expensive at a grocery store chain. I swear every week I bring home around three bags of full of fruit and veggies and no matter what I get that week it only costs me about $20 - or less! At my grocery store for the same amount of food I would normally spend about $40-50. I am now a huge advocate of shopping at the local farmer markets now, HUGE.

My Progress

During this last month I have been able to reflect on my eating habits a lot. I had some tough times and I noticed that during those tough times I reached for food to comfort me. I never really saw myself as an emotional eater but I am realizing that is exactly what I am. For some reason I feel the need to cry with food, celebrate with food and when I'm bored be entertained by food. I don't know why this is or when it started. I guess its possible I have been living this way my whole life.

I am really excited to continue on my Nutrisystem journey. I continue to learn more about myself each day, some good and some bad, but I'm learning about me and that's important. This next month should prove to be better for me in many ways. My boys will be back in school and I will be settling back into a normal routine and a normal eating schedule. I can't wait!

Sometimes I think that the Universe is against me.... I swear

12:00 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Summer is almost over and I haven't accomplished any where near what I have hoped. This is the last week before school starts and I am majorly behind. In fact, majorly is probably the understatement of the century.

About once two or three weeks I get a day to get things in order, one of those days where the kids are otherwise occupied, I am alone. Or Oscar is home to handle all of the kids needs. Same dif. Anyways, last month, my day was going to be the day after we got home from our business trip to San Francisco. I had a ton of things planned for my blog that I needed to get posted. I was excited to get those things accomplished.

Sadly, as you may know if you follow me regularly, the night that we arrived home all of our luggage was stolen out of our car. Since then I have spent the past few weeks dealing with credit card companies, banks, police - you name it. Not to mention the insurance company. Identity theft is a nightmare. I wouldn't wish this whole mess of crazy on my worst enemy.

Luckily, thanks to Home Depot, one of the criminals using my ID was caught. Only one of the many though. The cashier on duty was actually smart enough to notice that the woman using my Home Depot card and my ID, even my social security card, she looked nothing like me. Home Depot credit services called me at home to ask me if I was shopping at Home Depot, to which I replied "HELL NO! Stop that woman!", and luckily from there she was detained and arrested. Its a small win, but a win nonetheless.

I wish that I could go all McGiver on their asses and find the scumbags involved and bust them myself but I seriously don't have the testicular fortitude needed to do it. I don't want to place myself in a bad part of town without any police back up just to try to get my laptop back. My safety just isn't worth it. Quite frankly neither is my time. Too much of my valuable time has been spent dealing with this crap and I can't wait for this whole thing to one day be done and over with. Unfortunately from what I hear from other identity theft victims, I could be waiting for a very long time. This will undoubtedly come back to haunt me again and again over the next several years. Yaaaaayyyyyyyyy :(

Anyways, so that was the whole theft thing was the first thing that got me feeling that things were never gonna go my way, that I was never going to get caught up. Luckily all the PR reps that I have been dealing with have been extremely understanding about my situation, that this was something that I had to drop everything I was working on and deal with, whether I liked it or not.

So that brings me to current gripe. Just as I am starting to see things looking up again the universe decides to send me yet another blast in the face.

One thing that I have wanted all summer is just one day without the boys around that I could dedicate to blogging and getting organized. Just ONE DAY people. Is that too much to ask? Finally my day had come! Friday I had arranged for my parents to pick up my boys and drop them off at Oscar's mom's for the weekend. I was going to have all day Friday to get stuff done before I had to work Saturday morning, then that night we were going to drive to Bend Oregon and stay the night to go to a funeral on Sunday.

I wasn't getting the whole weekend to accomplish things just that one day. That one, beautiful day. I got up Friday, got the kids dressed, packed and ready to go. Literally ten minutes after they left that morning....

I got sick!!!!

Like so, so, so sick. I couldn't eat, drink or move. I was a zombie. All I could do was lie in bed and try to sleep away the stomach pains. Nothing worked. NOTHING. Then I ended up having the worst stomach flu/foodpoisoning/acid reflux of my life. Oscar drove me to the doctor to get their opinion but that only made things worse. As soon as I walked in there the smell of cleaning agents instantly made me want to vomit. I ran to the ladies just in time to make it to the sink. I felt horrible. At this point I was pretty sure that I wasn't going to recover in time to get anything done. I was yucky feeling that death was a welcome thought.

I was out for the whole weekend! Nothing to show for my days without the kids. This is why I think that universe is against me. I had three days without the kids - WHICH NEVER HAPPENS - and I laid in bed sick as a dog for two and half of them. I finally started feeling human again on Sunday. By then I had missed getting all caught up, missed work and missed the funeral we were going to attend.

See? The universe is against me.

The only blessing that came from this whole ordeal is that after being in bed for three days straight I feel completely rested and caught up on my sleep. I am not tired at all. In fact now that my stomach is up to par again I feel very refreshed. Ready to take on the world. Scratch that, the universe.

Aloha Friday - Radio Station Contests

12:32 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

[alohafriday.jpg]

Aloha Fridays are brought to you by Kailani from An Island Life. Over there in Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So Kailani thought that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting, too. So, for Aloha Friday, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Answer my question and put one of your own up on your blog. Link up and check out other blogs that participate at An Island Life.

Have you ever won anything from a radio station?

I am one of those that has been lucky enough to win from a radio station a total of 5 times in my life. When I was in elementary and middle school I won $100 twice and I also won tickets to go see Luther Vandross in concert, and Sinbad opened for Luther Vandross. It was pretty fun for me because I was only 12 and I had to go with my grandma. She enjoyed the music but thought that Sinbad was horrible. I think I was just ecstatic that I won something - even if it included Sinbad.

When I was 20 or 21, something like that I can't remember, I won tickets to a concert that had several bands playing. It was one put on by the station. I wish I could remember who I saw but I honestly have no idea. I just remember that it wasn't anyone that I was really into and I am pretty sure that Oscar and I were some of the oldest people there. I think the stars of the concert were loved by tweens so we were a little out of the loop.

Then, just the other day I won a $50 gift card to a high end sushi restaurant and get this - tickets to go see Cindi Lauper next week at the Woodland Park Zoo! I love Cindi Lauper and all but I wouldn't pay to see her perform or anything. I am taking my best friend with me because I need someone to go people watching with. Plus if its really lame we can hang out and go do something else so the night wouldn't be a total waste.

So, I guess you could say that I am a pretty lucky gal when it comes to these things. Too bad I can't get on game shows. Now that would be something!!!

Wordless/Wordful Wednesday - Baby Luggage

12:00 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

I woke one morning a few weeks ago and looked down to find Emilio getting all comfy in one of my pieces of luggage that was next to my bed. I had it there in preparation for the trip that I was packing for. I thought it was so cute and funny when I looked down and found him all cozied up like it was his own personal baby bed! He fit perfectly! What a goofball. (please excuse the crappy photos - they were taken with my blackberry!)

Do Your Kids Love Costumes? You Gotta Check Out Costume Discounters!

12:10 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

My oldest boys are 7 and 5, which are prime ages for imaginary play and dress up. The boys have the biggest imaginations and the role playing that they do is unbelievable! Now especially with Halloween coming up right around the corner I was ecstatic to be given the opportunity through the Family Review Network to review a costume from CostumeDiscounters.com.

One major reason that I was truly excited about this opportunity is that every year I tend to put off buying Halloween costumes until the very last minute. We all know what happens when you do that - little or no selection. I have always thought about purchasing costumes online before but I always thought that I could find a better deal or sale in an actual brick and mortar store than online. That is until now - Costume Discounters guarantees that not only do they carry a huge selection but the best prices too.

What I Love About Costume Discounters:
  • Their low price guarantee - They are so confident that they offer the lowest prices that if you find the identical costume somewhere else within ten days of your purchase for a lower price they will not just match the price but beat it by 20%!
  • Free Size and Product Exchange Shipping - If you find that you need a different size or a different costume all together you can easily exchange it for the right one and you won't have to pay any extra shipping charges. Simply purchase the correct one and follow the instructions for returning the incorrect item and upon receipt Costume Discounters will credit you for the costume plus any expedited shipping charges!
  • The Huge Selection - There are so many different costumes available and its tons of fun to search through all the different categories to find what you like. If you have something specific in mind you can type that in the search box too.

The Review

Deciding which of my sons that I was going to get the costume for was the hardest part. I knew that no matter which one I chose the other would be upset that he didn't get one. In the end though I decided to go with Oscar, my 7 year old, because he was really upset last year that we didn't find the right costume that he wanted in time for Halloween and he had to settle for a different costume. So this was my way of making it right for him this year.

After looking at tons of options for Boys Halloween Costumes, Oscar finally settled and chose the Darth Maul costume. He is really into Star Wars and I think he was going for the creepiest looking costume out there. The mask is so scary! The only thing that we will need to buy to complete the costume is the double ended light saber. I really like that it looks really intricate in the details but it is really simple to put together. The costume is really easy to take on and off plus it is a thin lightweight material that easily stretches over the clothing underneath. That is a huge plus because our Halloween in the Northwest is usually very cold at night so we tend to bundle the kids up underneath the costume to keep them warm.

The best news is that Oscar was absolutely thrilled with his costume! In fact, I asked him to put it on so that I could take a picture of him and he ended up wearing it for half the afternoon. While he was playing outside with his friends! Now both of the boys can't wait for Halloween. Benji is dying for me to buy him a Yoda costume so that he can battle his brother. Apparently the battle between good and evil continues!

Buy It!

I checked on the internet at several different sites offering the same exact costume because I wanted to see if Costume Discounters really had the best price. Out of all the sites I looked at the general price range was $37.99-39.99, one had it listed for $34.99. Costume Discounters sells this Darth Maul costume for only $32.97. No other sites even came close to that!

If you are looking for a huge selection of costumes at the best prices than you simply must go take a gander at Costume Discounters - you won't be disappointed!

This post was written for the Family Review Network & Costume Discounters who provided the complimentary product in exchange for my honest review.

12:00 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

My boys absolutely LOVE Tom and Jerry! Its not hard to believe that Tom and Jerry is a cartoon that has remained loved by all for 70 years! The love-hate relationship that they share is something that can be related to on many levels. I was thrilled when I was given the opportunity to review the latest release, Tom and Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes, with my boys. We loved the movie and it most definitely doesn't disappoint!

Tom and Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes

This animated adventure follows Tom and Jerry as they chase each other through the streets of London trying to catch a jewel thief. The thief framed a sexy singer named Red and has been so elusive that Scotland Yard had no choice but to call in the experts Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in order to catch the crook.

The craziness unravels further as each clue is uncovered. Tom and Jerry are joined by familiar characters such as Tuffy, Butch, Droopy and more - adding to the list of possible suspects!

Special Feature - How to Draw Tom and Jerry

This DVD offers a special feature in which a professional illustrator shows you step by step how to draw Tom and Jerry.

Hear What My Boys Thought!

I took a quick video review and asked my boys what they thought right after they watched Tom and Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes for the first time. Please excuse the quality of the video - I am stuck using my blackberry until I can replace the video camera that was stolen.

Buy It!

Nutrisystem Not Only Helps Teach You About Food but Exercise Too!

7:05 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

One thing that I have been slacking on this past couple of weeks is exercise. I realize that physical activity is a key element in weight loss but I never seem to find the time in my day. I have gotten increasingly more busy with all of the catch up I am doing from the week of handling my identity theft problems. Now that everything on that front seems to be calming down I am ready to get back to business and part of that is finding the time to insert exercise into my daily routine.

Knowing that exercise is important and knowing where to start are two totally different things. I have always considered myself, even as obese as I am, to be knowledgeable when it comes to creating an exercise routine. I used to be very active in my younger days and I have purchased several personal trainer sessions over the last ten years.

But what I have realized is that I really don't know how to work exercise into my daily routine, with the kids, the housework and my blog responsibilities. If I had the house to myself for a few hours every day this wouldn't be so problematic. I have found my greatest challenge is getting uninterrupted exercise. Every time I turn around one of my kids needs something from me, which sucks when you are trying to keep your heart rate up and you have to stop.

The one thing that I have found so far that I can do with my kids is play Just Dance on the Wii. I get a major aerobic workout even if I only play for fifteen to twenty minutes. I am planning on expanding my Wii activity but I haven't found any other games yet that I like to play that give me as much of a work out as Just Dance. Needless to say that I am super excited for the next edition of Just Dance to be released in the fall. I can't wait for some new songs to jam to.

Aerobic exercise is not enough though, strength training is equally important. This is what I need to work on infusing into my weekly routine. Being a member of Nutrisystem online I have access to a ton of tools that can help me with achieving not only my food goals but my exercise goals as well.

I really like that it has a plan laid out for me. Just be clicking on my program goals I can see that I need 25 minutes of aerobic exercise three days a week and 20 minutes of strength training two days a week. Since I need the most help with learning strength exercises right now I clicked on the Strength Program.

I chose the intermediate program to start with. Even though I am overweight, when it comes to strength training I know my body, and looking at the beginner program it just seemed too easy for me so I wanted to go with the intermediate program to start with. I really like that it breaks the exercises down for you. Its very easy to follow. Plus it tells you the equipment that you will need, which in this case is only hand held dumbbells and a kitchen chair.

Notice the exercises highlighted in blue? If you are not sure how to properly do it, or need a refresher course, like me, just click on the exercise and a guide will pop up. For example, when I click on Biceps Curl, this pops up:

It clearly and briefly explains just how to do the exercise. It even gives you the option to print it if you would like to make yourself a book or a chart of exercises. Which I think is a fantastic idea! The only thing that would make this a bit more helpful than it all ready is, is if it had pictures to go with the exercises as well. I am a visual learner myself so what I can see in a picture really helps me see what I can't understand with just words alone.

If you would like to see the training programs and exercises that are listed on Nutrisystem you can become a member by going to http://www.nutrisystem.com/prettypink. Membership is on the site is free. I really recommend taking advantage of everything that the site has to offer. What have you got to lose?

So, my goal this week is to implement strength training into my weekly routine. I have plans with my hubby for cardio three times this week plus I plan to do some Just Dance with my kids during the day. I am hoping to lose 2-3 pounds this week. I know that its a big goal but if I stick to my goals I really think that I can pull it off.

Win Awesome Stuff from Coach with the Coach Poppy Project!

12:46 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

You might have noticed that I have some fun little "poppies" growing down the left side of my blog! I am participating in the Coach Poppy Project. I heard about this awesome promotion from my buddy Tammy from Tammy's Two Cents. She put the poppies up on her blog a few days ago and by doing so she was one of the lucky winners of a $100 Coach gift card. What is even cooler is that someone visiting her blog noticed a Coach Poppy purse hiding in the poppies so not only did Tammy get a $100 gift card but her blog visitor did too!

After hearing this I just had to find out what the Poppy Project was all about! Especially after having all my favorite purses and wallets stolen I really could use a new purse - and I sure wouldn't mind a Coach purse, not one bit!

So here's the deal, to help me grow my poppies you can click on the poppies and a twitter box will open so you can tweet the message. My message is:

Grow, Poppy! Grow! #CoachPoppy #prettypinkmomma www.coach.com/poppyproject

There are 3 ways to participate:

  • Grow the Pattern - Tweet using #CoachPoppy to make all of the patterns grow, or use a participating site’s personal #hashtag (mine is #prettypinkmomma) to make that pattern grow. “Like” the Poppy Project on Facebook. Try secret keywords. Be creative!

Fast, Easy and Nutritious Breakfast Smoothie Recipe

12:15 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

I have to admit that I am not really a smoothie person, but I finally found one that I can smile about. This smoothie was made with a recipe I received that was created by Kim, the private chef at Daymon Worldwide. Daymon Worldwide is the world's leading private brand expert. Private brands, especially with the economy these days, are becoming a much more popular choice when grocery shopping. I know that when I am on a tight budget the first thing that I do is eliminate purchasing all the brand name labels for foods that I love and start purchasing the store brand private labels instead. Usually they are half the price of the name brand and they taste just as good I have found in most cases.

I made the smoothie above using only store brand products that I found at my local Fred Meyer. One ingredient that I was thrilled to include was the flax seed. I have read that adding the flax seed to your diet can do wonders for your health including: lowering cholesterol, triglyceride and blood pressure. I love this creative new way to add flax seed in my diet!

Below is the recipe so that you can make this delicious smoothie for yourself. Enjoy!

Breakfast Smoothie
Makes 2 smoothies

• Half a Banana
• 4 -6 frozen strawberries
• ½ c plain yogurt
• ½ - 1 c orange juice
• 1 Tbsp Flax seeds
• 1 Tbsp whey protein powder

In a blender add the banana, strawberries, yogurt, and orange juice. Blend until smooth. Add the flax seeds and whey, blend until evenly distributed and enjoy!

Try to mix it up a bit using other fruits -- whatever you have will work but here are some options:

• Fresh blueberries, frozen raspberries & pomegranate juice
• Fresh strawberries, frozen peaches & orange juice
• Fresh bananas, frozen mango, & pineapple juice

Aloha Friday - Family Game Night

12:00 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

[alohafriday.jpg]

Aloha Fridays are brought to you by Kailani from An Island Life. Over there in Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So Kailani thought that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting, too. So, for Aloha Friday, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Answer my question and put one of your own up on your blog. Link up and check out other blogs that participate at An Island Life.

Do you have a family game night or do you just play games whenever?

We don't have a family game night but we do like to play games as a family when it fits into our schedule. Usually its Wii games that we play together but lately the board and card games are making a comeback. Benji is all over Uno these days. Which I love, Uno is one of my favorite games!

Wanna Laugh Your Ass Off? You'll never believe what Benji did with Bandaids the other day!

12:03 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Okay, so I know that many of my hilarious stories that I tell about my children pretty much revolve around Benji. I can't help it though, he is just too damn funny! He says the funniest things and he DOES the funniest things. Things that Oscar at his age never, ever, thought to do. Check out what happened the other day...

I was in my bedroom watching TV while Emilio was napping in my bed. Benji comes into my room right after he left the bathroom. I notice that when he comes in he is holding his crotch area. Weird.

Benji: So, Mommy, I think I have an owie right here - two owies actually. As he is holding and pointing to his junk But don't look at it though, you can't look at it. I don't want you to look at it. I think there's blood.

Me: What? Bleeding? Benji, I'm sorry but if you have an owie down there I have to look at it. I need to make sure that you are okay. Sorry bud.

Benji: Okay, if you have to. Let's do it in your bathroom. Quickly though!

So we go into my bathroom and Benji proceeds to pull down his pants. Immediately I notice that he is wearing some new red underwear. However, I was not prepared for what occurred next - he pulled down his underwear and -

his penis was covered in bandaids!

He had wrapped one around the head and then put one straight across the middle of his testicles.

I wish I had a camera - not that I would show it to anyone publicly, but I swear it was so funny looking that I didn't think his Dad should miss out on it!

It was the funniest thing I had seen in a very long time. It was all I could do not laugh at that very moment. After all, he said he was bleeding, so I didn't want to make fun if he did indeed have an injury.

After explaining to Benji that he should never put bandaids on his penis, which took a minute for it to sink in, I slowly and carefully took the bandaids off. Which after taking them off Benji began to understand exactly why he shouldn't put bandaids there.

I checked him over carefully only to discover that the "blood" he was so worried about was only red fuzz from his new undies!

Then I started to laugh. I just couldn't help it. This was only something that Benji would do.

Me: Okay Benji, there are no owies on your penis - its just fuzz from your underwear! You don't have anything wrong with you. Of course at this point I am still giggling a little bit!

Benji: starts giggling too, Oh! I saw red and thought it had to be blood! I didn't know that it was fuzz! Thanks Mommy!

Me: Your welcome Benji! Now go wash your hands again and no more bandaids without asking me first dude!

So as soon as he left the room I started laughing again. Benji is too much! I had to call his Dad and tell him the story. I swear, only Benji! I'm so glad he told me about it sooner rather than later though. Can you imagine how bad that would have been to have to rip off bandaids in a hurry the next time he needed to go to bathroom?

Save Money - Recharge Your Batteries With the Energizer Smart Charger!

10:27 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Have you heard of these? Its the new Energizer Smart Charger, and I want it! Having three small children in the house we blow through batteries like nobody's business! If had one of these babies I could charge the batteries for so many things like....

  • Wii remotes
  • TV remotes
  • Multitudes of children's toys that take AA batteries

Having the Energizer Smart Charger would make life so much easier because not only would I be saving batteries, but money! That is really important to all of us these days. Batteries aren't cheap either!

In part I am posting about this because I read on J. Leigh Designs that the first 200 to post about this awesome little charger would receive a Smart Charger of their own and a $15 gift card to Target. So, naturally I was all over that! Visit Jennifer's post to find out the deets!

Wordless/Wordful Wednesday - Pigeon Frenzy

12:00 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Seeing as my camera was stolen with the rest of my luggage I am resorting to some pictures that I took with my cell phone while on our business trip to San Francisco. While we were there we had one free day for lunch anywhere of our choosing. We, and by we I mostly mean I, wanted to go to the Cheesecake Factory. I love that place! Free - even better.

Because we wanted to sit down at a table sooner rather than later we opted to eat outside on the deck area, which isn't really a deck its just the rooftop area. It was a super windy day and I was freezing my butt off even underneath the heat lamps. What we really weren't prepared for was the mega frenzy of pigeons attacking all the patrons.

I and several others snapped photos of the crazy, relentless, rats with wings that scavenged the floors looking for anything that might drop their way. What was picture worthy was the way that the pigeons instantly flocked to a table immediately after the people dining left. They pecked at the plates and tried to devour any food as quickly as they could before someone came to clear the table. It was CRAZY!

And kind of gross. I tried not to picture pigeons dancing all over the table that I was eating at. Or worse yet, pooping on the table that I was eating at.

Do You BBQ? You Gotta Try Herman T's BBQ Sauce - Review and Giveaway

12:35 AM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Summer is a great time for family BBQ's but our family loves BBQ so we are enjoying BBQ all year round. When the Family Review Network offered up the chance to review some tasty BBQ sauce I couldn't pass it up. We love trying new sauces and word on the web was that this sauce was pretty darn yummy.

Herman T's BBQ Sauce was created by Herman T. Jones in the 1950's. Herman T. wanted his sauce to be a great sauce that could be enjoyed and shared with all of his family and friends. In 2002 his grandson Chef Brian Lewis decided to mass produce his grandfather's beloved recipe for the whole world to enjoy.

Herman T's BBQ Sauce Mix is like no other sauce that I have tried before. Its not premade in a bottle, instead it is a mix that you can quickly add to ketchup and water in a saucepan at home and make fresh for your family to enjoy. I really liked this concept of being able to make the mix myself. It was really easy to make and kind of fun too! I made both the original and the spicy because we love both types of sauce and I wouldn't be satisfied if I only tried one.

After I made Herman T's Original BBQ Sauce I set it aside in a dish while I prepared the Spicy Sauce. With both sauces prepared and ready to go it was time to get started on dinner. I had planned chicken nuggets for the kids and grilled chicken breast marinated in the sauce for the adults. The BBQ Sauce looked so tasty that we ended up setting aside some nuggets for ourselves to dip into the sauces and give them a taste while we were preparing our chicken. The hubby and I both agreed that both sauces were really delicious!

The Original flavor is bold yet smooth in flavor, we gave it the big thumbs up! Hubby has a huge tolerance for spicy so he agreed that the spicy flavor was spicy but not that spicy. I on the other hand have a lower tolerance so I thought that it was really spicy, which I liked. Above you can see the grilled chicken that we prepared, two breasts were covered in Herman T's Original and two breasts were covered in the Spicy. Even though we both like spicy foods we agreed that the Original definitely tasted better than the Spicy in our opinion. It just had a really delicious flavor that kept us wanting more.

Buy It!

You can purchase Herman T's BBQ Sauce online at http://www.htbbqsaucemix.com for only $7.95 for one package of dry mix in any flavor or you can save a little and buy a two pack for only $15 in any combination of flavors that you like. I reviewed the pack that had one Spicy and one Original but you can get two Spicy's or two Original's if you would prefer only one flavor.

I highly recommend visiting the Herman T. BBQ site so that you can watch a quick video tutorial where Chef Brian shows you just how simple it is to make fresh BBQ sauce. Also you should stop by their blog to where Chef Brian shares some great recipes, special offers and more!

Win It!

One lucky Pretty Pink Momma reader will win a two pack of their choice of Herman T's BBQ Sauce! ARV $15

Attention Shoppers!

Back-To-School is on every mom's mind these days and its that time again to get ready for the upcoming school year. Now that Benji is in kindergarten I have to get double the supplies that I have been used to getting the last couple of years when I just had Oscar to worry about. I always get mine at my local Kroger store, Fred Meyer. The savings are amazing, which is why its one of my favorite places to pick up these much needed supplies.

If you haven't noticed all ready, going on right now at your local Kroger Family of Stores is the "Add Up the Savings" Event. During this event you can stock up on all of your coveted General Mills and Kimberly Clark brands from August 8 until August 21. When you purchase 8 participating items from any Kroger store you'll receive $4 off of your purchase! Some of the most popular participating brands include: Cheerios, Yoplait Yogurt, Pillsbury Cookies and Biscuits, Kleenex, Huggies, Betty Crocker Brownies, Cottonelle and my son's favorite cereal - Lucky Charms.

I don't know about you but I don't think I ever make it out of my favorite local Kroger store, Fred Meyer, without buying at least four or five products from those trusted brands for my family. My kids can't live without Gogurt or Lucky Charms and I can't let them live without Huggies or Cottonelle!

In addition to the great savings there are also special Bonus Box Top Offers that you can take advantage of as well! I collect as many Box Tops as possible so that I can send them in to my sons' school, every extra cent helps.
If you haven't done so all ready, you can register at http://www.rewardyourschool.com/ and get started today. Once you register you will automatically receive 5 Bonus Box Tops just for signing up.
Let me tell you what is really awesome about this program. Its awesome because it makes it so much easier to donate without all the clipping! Just remember to scan your Kroger Shopper Card and the Bonus Box Tops will automatically go straight to the participating school of your choice. Easy right? What Would You Give Up for the Summer to Lose 10 lbs? You Gotta Read The Nutrisystem Diet Index!

12:20 PM Posted by Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma

Nutrisystem has just released some insightful information obtained from their "Nutrisystem Diet Index" that I thought you would all enjoy. This was thier first diet index and it was featured in an article on USA Today. You can read the article here: http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/weightloss/2010-08-12-weightorsex11_ST_N.htm.

The survey found that over 50% of women would rather give up sex for the Summer than gain 10 lbs! Which being a woman, I can totally believe! I would give it up in a heartbeat to lose 10 lbs. Hell, I would give it up for a year to get to my ideal body weight. My husband may not be so keen on the idea but I bet he would love a slimmer, sexier version of me too. Probably not enough to give up sex though - ha ha!

Nutrisystem's poll of 1001 people also showed that three-quarters of both men and women would have been willing to give up something — such as watching TV, shopping, using a cellphone or computer for the summer, all for that flat tummy. As for me, I would give my right arm for a flat tummy. After three children I am doubtful that even if I reach my weightloss goal that it will ever be flat!

The survey also shared some interesting facts surrounding what people think about dieting in general. What resonated with me the most is that participants in the survey attemped to diet an average of 13 times in their lifetime — women, 16 times; men, 8. I really identify with that because I am only thirty years old but I have attempted at least 16 times, if not more. Life is so busy and I think as women we tend to put everyone else's needs first instead of our own. I personally have had a hard time because I spend my days thinking that I don't have any time for myself. The kids come first and if there is any time left over I should most definitely spend it cleaning the house, not exercising and making sure that I am eating right. Part of me has always felt that once everything else in my life is in order I will get back to taking care of myself. I am finally starting to realize that nothing will ever be perfect and I must find a way to balance focusing on myself while taking care of the needs of my family and my home. I am so glad that I have started with Nutrisystem, this experience will hopefully prove to be a life-changing one.

So, I want to know, what would you give to lose 10 lbs? You can read the USA Today article for examples, but I would love to hear some new ideas too!

If you would like to join me on my Nutrisystem weight loss journey please remember that you can take advantage of some great summer sales going on by calling 1-888-849-4680 or clicking on the special link for Pretty Pink Momma readers http://www.nutrisystem.com/prettypink.

*Nutrisystem is providing me with the program free of charge in exchange for my time and commitment to blog about my experience with the Nutrisystem Program.*
